Versioning
Versioning allows the user to switch between different versions of a shot. This feature is available with all FrameCycler and SpeedGrade 2007 Products except for SpeedGrade OnSet.
In most cases, shots have already been saved in a folder hierarchy with subfolders for each version. IRIDAS’ Version Panel relies on this folder structure. This functionality does not require databases or importing procedures. Any changes or additions are immediately visible in the version panel.
Creating a Folder Structure for Versioning
The folder structure required to activate this feature includes:
…\ProjectName\Scene\Shot\Task\Version\Resolution
This folder structure allows you to navigate between different tasks, versions, and resolutions of a shot.
Defining Tasks
Folder names aren’t fixed: versioning relies on the depth of the folder structure. If the Task folder, for example, is named “Compositing,” the version tab will reflect this folder name in the task pull-down in the Version Bar. You can have numerous folders on the same level – such as “3D,” “Animation,” “WIP,” or anything else that reflects your workflow. In the Task pull-down you can choose from any of the folders at that level.
Defining Versions
Since versions are listed numerically, it is advisable to use folder names starting with 001.
Defining Resolutions
All FrameCycler and SpeedGrade applications include a preset file for the industry standard resolutions: SD, HD and 2K. Use folder names to match these (“SD,” “HD,” and “2K”) at the resolution folder level. You can use as many resolutions as necessary for each version.
Example for one shot within a generic project using two tasks:
ExampleProject\Scene0325\Shot0003\Compositing\001\SD\ExampleSequence_#.mov \001\HD\ExampleSequence_#.tga \001\2K\ExampleSequence_#.dpx \002\SD\ExampleSequence_#.mov \002\HD\ExampleSequence_#.tga \002\2K\ExampleSequence_#.dpx \Animation\001\SD\ExampleSequence_#.mov …
Note on Custom Resolutions
To use custom resolutions, use a text editor to open Resolutions.fcps (in the settings folder of your application). Enter the new resolution settings there and name them accordingly at the resolution folder level (as shown in the example above).
