Overview

DualStream is a technology that allows you to work with stereoscopic footage (left/right eye). All current IRIDAS products support DualStream.

IRIDAS has been offering stereoscopic features in FrameCycler and SpeedGrade as early as 2002. As a result, DualStream is a core feature that is integral to the software architecture and not something that was added as an afterthought.

When working with DualStream stereoscopic timelines, you work in stereo space by default, without the need to manually synchronize edits or color correction information. All changes are made to the stereo timeline and you only have to deal with the individual eyes if you need to adjust something that specifically affects one eye, such as a color cast on one of the stereo cameras used.

If your footage adheres to a few simple folder and footage naming conventions, the clip for the other eye is automatically added whenever you conform a stereo timeline.

Supported Display Technologies

For stereoscopic presentation, the following display technologies are supported:

  • active shutter glasses (Windows and Linux only)
  • anaglyph (red/cyan) single monitor display
  • 50% opacity on single monitor display
  • TV sets supporting the pattern mode input such as the Samsung and Mitsubishi 3D TVs (rear projection LED DLP).
  • Horizontal and vertical interlaced displays such as the Zalman Stereo Display

The following two technologies are supported on Windows systems with NVIDIA QuadroFX GPUs:

  • Active Stereo for Shutter Glasses
  • Active Stereo dual DVI projection with polarized glasses

FrameCycler DDS, FrameCycler DI, SpeedGrade XR and SpeedGrade DI on Windows also support the following technology:

  • Dual SDI 4:2:2 output via the nVidia QuadroFX SDI

Basic DualStream Features

All DualStream enabled-applications automatically load both left eye and right eye sequences. For further technical information please refer to the DualStream Setup Documentation.

You can change basic stereo playback parameters:

  • Offset between reels for left eye and right (will affect all clips on the timeline based on this reel)
  • flip for left and right eye for display only
  • flip for left and right eye on a per-clip basis

FrameCycler DDS

FrameCycler DDS supports stereoscopic conform.

SpeedGrade XR/DI and FrameCycler DI: Stereoscopic Adjustment Features

In addition to the basic DualStream features, SpeedGrade and FrameCycler DI allow you to adjust the following:

  • Stereoscopy adjustment (horizontal offset)
  • Adjustment of misalignment (vertical offset)
  • Correction of rotational errors (rotating left/right eye)
  • Stereoscopic color correction
  • Color correction of individual eyes
