Overview

Mscope is a feature of the ARRIFLEX D-21. The ARRI Mscope process allows for anamorphic images to be recorded as a dual HD signal. IRIDAS FrameCycler and SpeedGrade 2008 and 2009 applications (except for SpeedGrade OnSet) can combine the two resulting images into one anamorphic picture in real time.

Preconditions

The A and B channel need to be available as either frame sequences or movie files. Ideally both channels should be available as DPX sequences. FrameCycler and SpeedGrade can display both channels individually, you can load them onto the timeline just like any regular DPX sequence. (Note that SpeedGrade XR requires Quicktime files instead and won't display DPX in RGB color). If you want to combine both channels automatically you need to setup a directory structure according to our DualStream file path conventions.

Activating Mscope

Mscope needs to be activated in FrameCycler and SpeedGrade:

  • Open the settings (hit <S>)
  • Choose "Display"
  • In the second pull-down select "Mscope"
  • Restart the application

Assembling data for playback, transcoding or grading

To load both channels automatically please enable the stereo tag on the timeline before adding clips to it. If you work with Mscope material exclusively or for a longer period of time it is recommended to make stereo timelines the default for newly created timelines:

  • Open the settings (hit <S>)
  • Choose "Editing"
  • Select "Enable Stereo" under "Defaults for newly created timeline"
  • Restart the application

For further info please refer to the Stereo Timeline documentation.
