2008 Service Pack 1 Change Log

For a full list of changes between individual product builds, see Build 2008.3366.40.

  • Bugfix: Audio Offset was not properly saved and restored to/from IRCP
  • Bugfix: Crash when timeline was deleted under certain circumstances (mainly in ReviewLink)
  • Bugfix: Drag and drop was possible to a read only timeline
  • Bugfix: Tracks remained locked when TL was set to read only before
  • Bugfix: When copying one clip from one timeline to another, the reel from the original timeline was referenced, which could cause crashes.
  • Bugfix: Hang after choosing a version from the Versions bar that does not conform to the correct folder structure
  • Bugfix: Environment variables sometimes did not expand correctly in some cases
  • Bugfix: Some of the Global_Settings.xml examples were broken (%VAR instead of %VAR%)
  • Dual SDI now fully up and running.
  • Network rendering GUI now requires network rendering licensing feature
  • First implementation of remote rendering using SequencePublisher nodes
  • LUTTranslator now has capability to write up to 129x129x129 LUTher nodes
  • LUTTranslator now uses internal .Look LUT if parameters are not sufficient to render from .Look (for example if external LUT is missing)
  • Added +N/-N option to add values to frame numbers or time code in burn in templates ( {FrameIndex+1} )
  • Optimized LUT loading. Should eliminate across network LUT loading performance significantly.
  • New fxMedian noise reduction filters
  • All products now contain a helper application called LUTTranslator. LUTranslator allows you to convert LUT files to Look files, recode Look files using higher 3D LUT settings and converting Look and LUT files to LUTher LUT files.
  • Some changes in the internal GUI update functions that should have no outside effect
  • Stand-alone Profile Editor updated with new stereo options
  • Settings->Editing: Allows you to set the default values for mirroring eyes when importing reels. Left only, Right only, both.
  • Checkboxes in the reel browser to flip and flop (mirror) a reel. Important for stereo work.
  • Removed flip eye view settings - this can now be done in the reel browser
  • Checkboxes in the Properties tab of a clip to flip and flop a clip.
  • Checkbox in the Properties tab to enable reverse playback of a clip

  • Bugfix: LINUX - some Quicktime codecs did not work with range specifications from the command line (MJPEG-A for example).
  • New fxBloom custom shader for powerful glow effects.
  • New fxKeyer bluescreen/greenscreen keyer shader - create alpha channel based on blue/greenscreen in the image.
  • Numerous Assmembler Optimizations, especially on AMD based systems.
  • Base frame rate is now floating point, allowing for 23.976 and 29.97 non drop frame rates. The timecode is rounded up to 24/30 as required by non drop TC
  • -L and -R are now supported for stereo reel detection
  • Option in the subtree dropdown in the SequenceBrowse to list sequences with missing frames as separate sequences ("split at gaps").
  • Split checkbox in channel view dialog replaced with dropdown allowing you to switch between none, split and 50% blend overlay mode.
  • Stereo rendering options disappear if no stereo timeline is active.
  • System Information is now the first tab in the user settings. This allows you to see the current user, domain, MAC IDs, graphics card driver, CPU features
  • Bugfix: Snapshot Browser crashed under certain circumstances - for example when using the scroll wheel
  • New: Navigation support in Pan and Scan track. You can now navigate the Pan and Scan keyframes using the keyboard
  • Bugfix: Tab control looked strange when GUI was in non OpenGL mode
  • Bugfix: Missing screen refreshes in Mask Mode
  • Bugfix: YUV Cineform movies were shown with broken thumbnails
  • Bugfix: Reel references in stereo setups sometimes did not work correctly
  • Bugfix: Sometimes client windows were not shown correctly
  • New: Full network rendering support (GUI will be improved)
  • Bugfix: Cursor shapes were sometimes off in the directory tree control
  • Bugfix: Corrected error in internal array handling, probably responsible for a few non-reproducible random crashes.
  • Bugfix: When last timeline was deleted, the position of the new timeline was sometimes off
  • Change: Option to choose relative or absolute frame numbers in render dialog
  • New: Alternative screen layouts, switchable with buttons on top of screen layout dialog or with new hotkey SHIFT F11
  • Change: Screen layout dialog now saves the last split mode and goes back to it, whenever two channels are active.

  • Bugfix: Non-stereo licenses crashed FrameCycler

  • New: Hotkey CTRL + SHIFT + ALT D toggles DualDVI on/off

  • Bugfix: MacOS X - Wrong SSE2 optimization caused problems in CPU rendering of 3D LUTs
  • Change: Significant rendering speed enhancements
  • Change: Latest generation assembler instructions are now disabled by default. Can be enabled in Settings->System Information
  • Change: CPU implementation of calibration LUT rendering now uses the common LUT rendering functionality (performance improvement)
  • New: Clip_0_to_1 LUT in LUTs dropdown. Clips the float range to 0 .. 1.0 - useful for intentional clipping effects
  • Bugfix: Cosmetic - in some error windows and other HTML views, the ; after a special character like & was shown
  • Bugfix: Crash in some undo situations
  • New: Enhanced vectorscope control. Vectorscope is now HLS-based and updates in the same way the histogram does (real time/paused/idle).
  • New: RGB waveform parade control.
  • Bugfix: After exiting virtual trackball mode, the application sometimes behaved as if the right mouse button were continuously pressed
  • Bugfix: Uncompressed AVI in the old AVI 1.0 format was not displayed correctly
  • New: Timecode and additional meta data support for .ari (ARRI RAW)
  • Bugfix: Thumbnails of movie file formats sometimes did not refresh until mouse was moved
  • New: Timecode tracks in Quicktimes now support discontinuities (i.e. timecodes that are not sequential)
  • New: SequencePublisher - support for routing source timecode (or other timecode from the metadata) to the destination timecode track instead of timeline timecode
  • Change: Performance improvement in CPU textures, increases rendering speed, especially at smaller or odd resolutions
  • Bugfix: SpeedGrade OnSet: Bug introduced in 2008.3175.856: image was sometimes flipped upside down, may have affected CPU rendering as well under some circumstances
  • Change: Default extensions (.dpx etc.) when rendering are now all lowercase
  • Bugfix: Memory leak in IHSS loader caused crash after a few minutes of playback
  • Bugfix: Small memory leak during playback, caused problems after more than about 18 hours of continued playback
  • Bugfix: Skewed Images in some cases in FrameCycler Professional
  • Bugfix: Crash when using internal rendering of RAW frames with LUTs applied (SequencePublisher worked)
  • Bugfix: Mouse clicks in render dialog were passed to the underlying windows
  • Bugfix: Resampled image returned to full size for a brief moment while previewing looks
  • New: Silicon Imaging and ARRI D21 .Look files (in Settings\Looks) and corresponding look up tables.
  • Change: Waveform display is significantly faster now
  • Change: Vectorscope speed increase by 10x (SSE 4.1 optimization)
  • Change: When desktop is closed, clip under the playhead is automatically selected
  • New: Support for #### syntax for specifying number position and padding for frame renders (number of # translates to padding)
  • New: Support for meta data ({Field} Syntax) and subfolders in render dialog/SequencePublisher command line
  • Change: Meta data fields were renamed and made consistent across all file formats. See [1] for more information.
  • Change: Automatic support for power management driven processors on Windows (varying processor frequencies). (Notebook.iridas switch is now obsolete on this platform).
  • Bugfix: Mac OS 10.5: 3D LUTs had stopped working after last Mac SP.
  • Change: SequenceBrowser no longer captures cursor keys - cursor keys now trigger the standard playback functions when the browser is up.
  • Bugfix: Size and opacity of transformation widget was not persistent
  • Bugfix: Stereo eye dropdown box appeared in the wrong place when vscope/histogram/waveform was up
  • Bugfix: ReelBrowser offset edit box spin control behaved erratically sometimes
  • Change: Command line: When no fps value is specified and one or more of the input files is a video file, the fps value from the first video file is used as timeline fps.
  • New: Command line: Support for -stereo flag which creates a stereoscopic timeline.
  • New: Support for -flipleft:horz, -flipleft:vert, -flipright:horz, -flipright:vert to mirror footage on the command line for each stereo eye.
  • Change: SSE optimizations for vectorscope control
  • New: SpeedGrade (Windows): Real-time SDI playout with Sony-compatible deck control (Hotkey CTRL ALT R). Note: known bug causes this build to crash when no SDI output is present on the system.
  • Change: changes to internal memory management - products will now precisely adhere to memory cache slider
  • Change: simplified internal rendering
  • Bugfix: Rendering - numbers in file names were replaced by the frame number
  • New: SpeedGrade OnSet: If you place a file called Default.look in the Settings directory, this look will be used as template (see SpeedGrade_OnSet:_Default_.Look)
  • Bugfix: Gap detection in frame sequences did not work properly on some (mostly LINUX) file systems
  • Bugfix: Made internal rendering frame loading perform better
  • Bugfix: Bug introduced in 2008.3222.677, caused RAW frames to render black when no LUT was applied.
  • Change: Message boxes no longer have a transparent background to improve readability
  • Bugfix: Internal time code for burn-ins sometimes had the wrong base FPS
  • Bugfix: When the Advanced Timing window was up, SDI performance decreased
  • New: Hotkeys for reset grade; Reset current panel (ALT Delete); Reset entire grade (SHIFT ALT Delete)
  • New: SpeedGrade OnSet: RGB Parade display (Press W to show)
  • Bugfix: Improved SequenceBrowser stability
  • Bugfix: Crash when rendering of mirrored RAW files
  • Change: SequencePublisher removed from all products. Internal rendering now works independent of SP and SP is a separate product, called MetaRender now.
  • New: Hotkey ALT + D: Temporarily disables stereo mode and shows left and right side-by-side. Essential when trying to match a timecode slate in two streams that are offset for example.
  • New: Vertical and Horizontal interlaced stereo modes. Horizontal interlaced is used for Zalman 3D monitor for example
  • Change: When rendering QT/AVI, no more than 2 files are kept open at a time. This fixes the out of memory crashes that were caused when rendering to metadata folder names.
  • Bugfix: When more than 5 AVI/Quicktime/RAW files are open in a timeline, the least frequently used ones are closed to conserve memory. This eliminates the problem that the buffer space can run out on large QT/AVI timelines and at some time caused an out of memory crash.
  • Bugfix: When AVI or Quicktime is rendered, rendering to non existing path did not cause that path to be created.
  • Bugfix: When AVI or Quicktime is rendered, not being able to open the file, returns with an error instead of trying to open it for every rendered frame again.
  • Bugfix: AVI files in the sequence browser caused crash because GUID was requested for non Cineform file
  • Bugfix: Crash when burn in was explicitly selected in render dialog.
  • Bugfix: SpeedGrade crashed when SDI playout dialog was activated and no NVIDIA SDI daughter card was available.
  • Change: Support for C style %05d syntax for specifying frame number padding
  • Bugfix: Crash on exit when a very long file operation could not be finished in time for the shutdown of the application.
  • Bugfix: Fixed special cases in memory management that could cause the applications to hang. Occured quite often during scrubbing.
  • Bugfix: Crash in Reel browser under some circumstances when working with multiple timelines.
  • Bugfix: Frames occuring multiple times in a timeline did not show their cache status properly.
  • Bugfix: When Vectorscope was set to 1/2 or 1/4 res, some scanlines in frames were displayed incorrectly on screen.
  • Change: Least recently referenced Cineform files are now unloaded when more than 4 files are open to avoid memory management issues.
  • Change: ReviewLink server functionality now available in all products
  • Bugfix: MetaRender froze at start up
  • Bugfix: Removed stereo eye flipping from FrameCycler VenueSystem's Settings page
  • Bugfix: In anaglyph or shutter glasses mode, flip operations on the right eye had no effect
  • New: SpeedGrade OnSet: Support for Autodesk Flame compatible .3dl format in export dialog
  • New: SpeedGrade OnSet: Support for fast IRI-based interactivity with Cine-Tal monitors
  • Bugfix: SpeedGrade OnSet: "FrameCycler" button did not work with AVI/Quicktime or other self-contained files (RAW)
  • New: Weisscam HS-2 WCR format compatibility
  • Bugfix: Scene Detection crashed often on Mac OS X and sometimes on Windows/LINUX
  • Change: Frame rates from high speed cameras are no longer used as basis for the timecode (capped at 30fps by default, beyond that the value from the user settings is used).
  • New: Src.FrameRate meta data field stores the original frame rate of the camera.
  • Bugfix: Error window displayed nbsp instead of space characters
  • New: FrameCycler VenueSystem - LTC status window
  • New: SpeedGrade OnSet - 0 key on the numerical keypad toggles grading off temporarily
  • New: ReviewLink panel now has a more user friendly layout and includes the Edit Path directly in the panel.
  • New: Src.TimeCodeCorrected metadata property. Contains a TimeCode that is based on the first Src.TimeCode
  • New: SpeedGrade OnSet: Support for Sony SRW 1D LUT format in export dialog
  • Change: SSE 4.1 support can be turned off on LINUX and Mac OS X platforms for troubleshooting purposes
  • Change: File orders in Look, Mask, Snapshot browsers are now saved during AutoSave cycle
  • Change: MetaRender now receives user settings along with timeline when a job is sent from SpeedGrade
  • Change: Removed Split at Gaps function since it did not work correctly. 2009 Beta has a working split at gaps function.
  • Change: ReviewLink: You can no longer "Add All" from the Desktop or click on the plus keys without checking out the timeline
  • Bugfix: Missing display refresh, when Pan and Scan View Mode Changed
  • Bugfix: DPX playback performance was significantly slower on some systems than older versions of 2008
  • Bugfix: .SIV File format did not work with non-2K resolutions with current SI camera firmware
  • Bugfix: .SIV files with a size bigger than 2GB did not work properly
  • Bugfix: Enter key on keypad did not work on LINUX and Mac OS X
  • Bugfix: On LINUX and Mac OS X, the project path defaulted to /
  • Bugfix: ReviewLink: Jumping between clips (CTRL+SHIFT+Arrow) did not remote correctly to the connected clients
  • Bugfix: Sound clips shifted into negative timeline timecode were moved to 0 when application restarted. This also caused any rendering to QT/AVI to not have the correct sound position when the sound position was negative.
  • Bugfix: Font sizes of annotations were not saved properly
  • Bugfix: FrameCycler VenueSystem - LTC slave mode workaround for problems in sound drivers when recording several hours of sound
  • Bugfix: Silent correction of wrong timecode values coming from video files resulted in Src.TimeCode that did not match the actual header TC. Only happened when TC base FPS was different from the video file base FPS
  • Bugfix: MetaRender .ijob files contained broken burn-in presets
  • Bugfix: RealTime RAW sometimes caused artifacts in the first or last line of an image
  • Bugfix: Some SSE optimizations did not behave properly in very rare cases (affected vectorscope, waveform and some RAW formats)
  • Change: PDF documentation folder replaced with documentation.html link in root directory
  • Change: Editing path is now only available in the ReviewLink panel
  • Change: MetaRender UI - CPU rendering is now the default rendering engine
  • Bugfix: MetaRender - In GPU mode when no grading was specified, the stereo flip operator was optimized away, resulting in a non-flipped stereo image.
  • Bugfix: Rendering of 16 bit PNG files did not work because of broken endian functions for 16 bit code path
  • Bugfix: Small memory leak in some situation when non-default quality was used
  • Bugfix: SDI Splitscreen did not work in some situations
